I was born in Cambridge, UK, more years ago than I would care to mention! From an early age I developed a natural creative flair and, after studying A-levels at Hills Road Sixth Form College, I went on to complete a Foundation Course in Art and Design, and an SIAD Diploma in Illustration at the Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (CCAT).

After leaving college my first big break came when I had the opportunity to “help out” in the School Books Design Dept at the Cambridge University Press. Over the next year I learnt the art of book design at one of the most traditional publishers in the country and was soon competent at typographic design and copy mark-up; cover design; page layout and traditional paste-up.

In 1986 I joined creative forces with Caroline Ziaian, my partner in life and business, to form Quantum Graphics – a multi-disciplined graphic design consultancy specialising in promotional material, packaging, book work and illustration.

We took time out from the creative service to set up The Attic Card Co (which went on to become The Attic Publishing Company) – designing, publishing and distributing greeting cards to national chains and independent retailers world-wide. 30 designs were also represented for international licensing contracts by New York based agents Intercontinental Greetings.

After seven years of hard-core selling we reverted back to being a creative service and set up Pumpkin House, providing a comprehensive creative service for print – as we had done before. About 18 months ago Pumpkin House was rebranded and continues to trade as Cambridge Design Consultants (CDC).

Caroline has now stepped back from the business to concentrate on her other creative interests – writing and painting – and is becoming an established oil and acrylic painter under the brush name of Carrie Ian.

Creatively there’s not a lot I can’t do, though I outsource any web work and SEO to a couple of very talented and experienced associates that I’ve worked with for a number of years. Given the choice I would like to focus more on illustrative work and the fusion of digital illustration and photos – so if you are looking to place any projects of that nature in particular, please do make contact.

Within these pages I’ve tried to include a diverse selection of styles to demonstrate the range of my creative abilities, but if you have something in mind, and you don’t see it here ...it doesn’t mean that I can’t do it, so again, please do make contact – I look forward to hearing from you!
